THERAPY FOR ADULTS
Am I a good fit for you?
Despite what we all wish would happen, therapy is not a quick fix, nor is it magic. I don't work quickly with my clients. Think about it - do you want to open up to a perfect stranger about that panic attack you had at 2am? Some people do, and that's great. A lot of people need time to build trust, see if their therapist can handle "small" concerns, before they're ready to bring up what really brought them into the office in the first place.
THERAPY FOR ADOLESCENTS
Parents, this is for you.
Same as with adults, therapy is not a "quick fix." As kids enter their teenage years, their bodies and minds are developing rapidly. For some people, puberty exacerbates pre-existing concerns with sensitivities or sadness. For others, changing hormones and growing brains brings new challenges for your child and for you. Here are some things I will do: give you ideas for new ways of relating to your child, try to translate their pain points, and maybe suggest a book to read. Some things I won't do: I won't parent your child, nor will I "fix" them.
Ultimately, your child is my client. However, as the parent, you are with them for 167 hours each week, whereas I get to hang out with them for 1. You know your child better. If we can team up, your kiddo will likely make progress faster than if all the change is expected to occur during sessions.
